RESOLVED that members of the Press and public be excluded from the meeting for the following item of business under Section 100A(4) of the Local Government Act 1972 on the grounds that:
(i) it involved the likely disclosure of exempt information as defined in paragraph 1 of Part 1 of Schedule 12A of the Act; and
(ii) the public interest in maintaining the exemption outweighed the public interest in disclosing the information.

RESOLVED that the two flexible working requests, as set out in the report, be refused.

16The Committee received a briefing on the policy and procedure for considering requests for flexible pension.
19The Committee received a report on two requests by employees for flexible retirement. The report set out relevant statutory powers, issues for consideration, options open to the Committee, legal, financial and equalities implications and policy framework considerations. The Compensation and Early Retirement Policy was annexed to the report to assist the Committee's discussions, along with illustrative examples and the details and case statements of the two cases for consideration.

It was noted that the option of requesting flexible retirement had been introduced through recent changes to the Local Government Pension Scheme and the requests were the first received by the Council.

The Committee discussed the costs to the Council in each case, under the options set out in the report. It was noted that although one post with the team was being deleted, the chances of redeployment to another role within the Council were considered to be fairly good.
