RESOLVED that the presentation be noted and no formal response be made to the Department of Communities and Local Government on its Consultation Paper.
30 NEW CODE OF CONDUCT - TRAINING AND NOTIFICATION OF PERSONAL INTERESTS
RESOLVED that the report be noted.

29The Committee received a presentation by the Council's Monitoring Officer on a Consultation Paper issued by the Department of Communities and Local Government on the above. A copy of the Paper had been circulated with the Agenda and at the meeting presentation overheads were circulated.

The purpose of the presentation was to outline the implications for the Council and the Standards Committee of new requirements under the Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Act 2007 (relating to the Code of Conduct) and the proposed way forward.

In this respect, the presentation covered relevant background (legislative driven, further changes to the Act and the Code, Regulations/Consultation) size of the Committee and related issues and next steps (a report on required changes to the next meeting of the Committee, recruitment of new/additional independent Members, Member training and new local procedures and protocols). A local filter complaint handling chart was included with the presentation papers.

Following discussion on a number of issues it was
30The Council's Monitoring Officer reported that a final training session for Borough Councillors on the new Code of Conduct was to be held on Wednesday, 30th January 2008. To date 20 Members had not received formal training on the Code (provided by the Council) and 10 had indicated that they were to attend the forthcoming session. A number of apologies for absence had been submitted and attendance was not compulsory.
