Decision details
Street Naming – Guardsman Hill Drive, Redhill – February 2019
Decision Maker: Digital Delivery Manager
Decision status: Recommendations Approved
Is Key decision?: No
Is subject to call in?: No
Purpose:
The Councils Scheme of Delegation sections
8.13 and 8.14 provides for the Head of Service with responsibility
for Street Naming to make decisions on new Street Names.
The Leader of the Council made a Strong Leader decision on 23
January 2019 to make an exemption to the Street Naming and
Numbering Policy to allow for this proposed street naming to be
considered, which would otherwise have been outside of the adopted
Policy.
A further activity is being undertaken to review the current Policy
to consider including a new entry to recognise where individuals
died whilst on active service.
Decision:
To approve of the street name Guardsman Hill
Drive, Redhill.
Reasons for the decision:
To pay tribute to a former Borough resident
Guardsman James Hill, who was killed in the Afghanistan conflict on
8th October 2009 by naming a road after him as “Guardsman
Hill Drive” which will be located within the Redstone
Cemetery, Redhill.
Alternative options considered:
Option 1 - Proceed with the proposed naming of
this road
Option 2 - Not to proceed with the proposed naming of this
road
