Save Chain Pond

We the undersigned petition the council to Save our historic Pond by de-silting it , removal of all Reed Mace as it's too intrusive , to be replaced by native wild aquatic plants . The Lilly to be removed and any Goldfish that were put in there and for the inlet to be cleared to allow water to flow back into it . This will allow our Newts , Frogs and Toads to be able to return and breed that have become endangered due to habitat loss . For Brambe and other Flora to be controlled so they don't encroach too much .

Chain Pond's first mention in the History books was in 1886 , this pond is not only historic but Iconic throughout the local area , for many of us we have seen it deteriorate for years especially the water level . Since last October we have had a lot of rain and yet now mid August we are all seeing our Moorhen family just wading through mud , with just a little water left . Our Amphibians have become virtually non existent around the area due to the lack of water, much of our Wildlife relies on the Pond for an important water source .
We have lost many Ponds in the borough over the years or they have simply dried up . We desperately need more Ponds and those that we do have should be maintained and kept healthy for the sake of our Wildlife .
