The Executive
The Leader is appointed by the Council and is responsible for most of the day to day decisions the Council takes.
The Leader appoints a Deputy Leader and up to eight other Councillors to the Executive. Each Councillor within the Executive is allocated a specific portfolio responsibility, covering particular service and policy areas.
The Executive is formed from the group holding the majority of seats on the Council and meets approximately every six weeks.
It must act in accordance with council policy and within set budgetary constraints. In cases where the Executive believes it is necessary to go beyond those boundaries, the decision is put before the full Council.
