Designation of Polling Places

Decision Maker: Electoral Registration Officer

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Decision:

To designate Banstead Methodist Church, The Drive, Banstead SM7 1AA as a polling place for the European Parliamentary Election taking place on Thursday 23 May 2019 for the NOR2 polling district in Nork ward.

To designate St Matthew's Primary School, Linkfield Lane, Redhill RH1 1JF as a polling place for the European Parliamentary Election taking place on Thursday 23 May 2019 for the RDW5 polling district in Redhill West & Wray Common ward.

Reasons for the decision:

The Beacon School, the current designated polling place for NOR2, is not available on 23 May due to student exams. Banstead Methodist Church has suitable facilities including its own car park to accommodate a polling station and is located in the polling district.

St Joseph's Primary School, the designated polling place for RDW5, is unavailable due to ongoing building works. St Matthew's Primary School has suitable facilities, has been used as a polling station for previous elections and is located in the polling district.
Where it is impractical to report to Council, the Electoral Registration Officer has delegated authority, under 1.24 of Part 3B of the Council’s constitution, to designate polling places subject to consultation.

Alternative options considered:

A polling place must be provided for electors to vote in the European Parliamentary elections being held on Thursday 23 May 2019.
