Honorary Alderman: Conferment on Mr Roger Newstead and Mr David Pay

To consider the following Motion:

 

“That in pursuance of Section 249(1) of the Local Government Act 1972, the Council do confer upon:

 

1)    Mr Roger Newstead

 

the title of Honorary Alderman of the Borough of Reigate and Banstead, a most honourable distinction which it is the privilege of the Council to bestow, in appreciation and acknowledgement of the eminent services rendered by Mr Newstead to the Council including three terms as Mayor, and as an expression of the high esteem in which he is held by Council.”

 

2)    Mr David Pay

 

the title of Honorary Alderman of the Borough of Reigate and Banstead, a most honourable distinction which it is the privilege of the Council to bestow, in appreciation and acknowledgement of the eminent services rendered by Mr Pay to the Council including three terms as Mayor, and as an expression of the high esteem in which he is held by Council.”

Councillor Lewanski, the Deputy Leader and Executive Member for Finance, Governance and Organisation, proposed and Councillor Biggs, the Leader of the Council, seconded Mr Roger Newstead to be conferred with the title of Honorary Alderman of the Borough of Reigate & Banstead.

 

Councillor Biggs proposed and Councillor Lewanski seconded Mr David Pay to be conferred with the title of Honorary Alderman of the Borough of Reigate & Banstead.

 

The service paid by each to the Council and the residents and community of Reigate & Banstead Borough was highlighted.

 

RESOLVED: To confer Mr Roger Newstead and Mr David Pay with the title of Honorary Alderman of the Borough of Reigate & Banstead.

Honorary Freeman/Freewoman: Admission of Mr Colin Sutherland and Ms Millie Bright

To consider the following Motion:

 

“That in pursuance of Section 249(5) of the Local Government Act 1972, the Council do admit:

 

1)    Mr Colin Sutherland

 

to Honorary Freeman of the Borough of Reigate and Banstead, a most honourable distinction which it is the privilege of the Council to bestow, in appreciation and acknowledgement of the eminent services rendered by Mr Sutherland to local charities for more than 30 years, and as an expression of the high esteem in which he is held by Council.”

 

2)    Ms Millie Bright

 

to Honorary Freewoman of the Borough of Reigate and Banstead, a most honourable distinction which it is the privilege of the Council to bestow, in appreciation and acknowledgement of the eminent services rendered by Ms Bright in sport nationally and within the Borough, and as an expression of the high esteem in which she is held by Council.”

Councillor Moses, the Executive Member for Environment and Sustainability, proposed and Councillor Harp, the Chair of the Standards Committee, seconded Mr Colin Sutherland to be admitted as an Honorary Freeman of the Borough of Reigate & Banstead.

 

Councillor Michalowski, the Executive Member for Place, Planning and Regulatory Services, proposed and Councillor Baker, the Deputy Mayor, seconded Ms Millie Bright to be admitted as an Honorary Freewoman of the Borough of Reigate and Banstead.

 

Mr Sutherland’s community service and Ms Bright’s contribution to football both within the Borough and nationally were highlighted.

 

RESOLVED: To admit Mr Colin Sutherland as Honorary Freeman and Ms Millie Bright as Honorary Freewoman of the Borough of Reigate & Banstead.
